Pumpkin farm, sushine, felted thing and the Blurry Canadian mountains

Stella and I went to the farm again this season, on the luckiest most beautiful day! The weather was outrageously perfect, colors clear and bright. The farm was crowded with children- it was sunny on a Sunday so was expected. We bought a few gourds and looked around.

I would have taken this dog if I could have gotten away with it. She was so darling I almost wept. "She likes the elderly," her humans stated as I scritched her tummy and got a load of dog kisses. What a sweetheart. She is a Scot's border terrier, with none of the mad terrier manic energy they tend to display. She was mellow. I love her.

Lots of white pumpkins this year. Rather novel I suppose, not my faves. Why waste a season of vibrant color devoting it to bland white?

This was the largest pumpkin on the farm. It genuinely looks like what I see when I recline in the bathtub.

It is Stella's Birthday. We went to lunch at a restaurant at the harbor in Anacortes  thinking that it would be special. Started out promising with a basket of warm blueberry coffee cake with cinnamon butter and a menu not unlike the place we usually go to  in town. We kept it simple - fish and chips and coffee.

Worst fish and chips we have ever tried to eat! Terrible but,  I said- the tartar sauce was good- Stella said that  the ketchup was also good. Just shy of one hundred bucks, that terrible meal.

Today I went to the pet shop to get a small bag of kitten kibble for the stray calico cat on the deck. $30.00 for a small bag! NO, just NO! Had to fill my very empty tank @ nearly $6.00 a gallon. I am going to have to make it last- drive less, walk more. This is good for me, I tell my lazy ass. Like in my youth when a car was not available. I will not get a bike- gravity is not my friend.

This morning was our first frost, Canadian mountains visible, just barely! That blue smudgy bit. When i was young and traveling with my parents I fell in love with Canada, We drove all over and dipped toes in every lake. I swore to my mom that I would live there when I grew up. This is as close as I could get. It will have to do.

Raccoon slumber party on the deck this morning. They must have had a busy night. They slept for a couple of hours at least. Totally relaxed.

including the blur, just so you can experience what I see  in the morning. My eyes will die before I do and that is a crying shame, I tell you.

I looked up how many  have my name- there are only 16 in the entire nation! Had I kept my other name, the one my Grandfather invented when he arrived at age eleven or twelve - picked at random from a phone book, I would be among the number 3,619 of Linda Sue  Nelsons in this land. I did not ask AI to tell me who I was, though. I just firefoxed it.

Today I mended a fairy doll that I felted for Emily 20 years ago. Flora Jane played with her and lost quite a bit of her hair. She needed tightening up anyway. I may make her cheeks rosy if I can find the right wool.

While in the mood I also tightened up  my crazy bird head. He holds hats , that is his job.  He needed attention,so, I got in a bit more stabbing today and it felt just right.
Because-

                                                                                That is all.

    1. There is no fixing the man. nature is taking him out . Rotting from the inside out I reckon.

  2. Wonderful photos from the pumpkin farm! I enjoyed seeing the raccoon slumber party too. Love your Crazy Bird Head! And wow, Oliver Kornetzke's blistering description of Trump is exactly right.

    1. The pumpkin farm is the best one in the area. there are many but we like Gordon's because it is so "family" . Creative art around every corner, painted by one of the farmers.

  3. Your felted fairy doll is just the best. And of course your bird head. I think perhaps we should all take up the stabbing arts.
I hate it when I pay for what should be a most excellent meal and discover that Captain D's probably does it better. This is not right! Okay. So I'm not sure if I've ever eaten at Captain D's but you know what I mean.
I hate it more, however, that your sight is as it is. What a cruel, cruel situation. Your photography eye is so amazing. What an irony that you bring us such gorgeous images, so sharp, so clear.
I would have fallen in love with that doggie too.

    1. stabbing really is a vent! especially if there are no expectations of the outcome and the wool wasted (?) Sculpting with wool is the most satisfying and rewarding, I find. You. might take to it like you have done with pottery!
Disappointing expensive meals are like popping all of the balloons at a party - like dropping the cake before it makes it to the table. Stella deserves better!Stella deserves the best!
Thank you for liking the photos. Sometimes I can see what I am doing, not often, so thank you! XO

  4. Oh, the fairy doll and bird head are fabulous, each in its own way.

What is the deal with all the pumpkins. An overabundance of pumpkins. What happens to them all? The landfill that's what. What a waste of food growing space just for a month of decoration.

    1. Pumpkins are the BEST decoration- they get eaten after halloween, either by pie makers or animals, also makes excellent compost. So not wasted space , not land fill- Pumpkin farms do us all a service. Plus they have orchards and sunflower fields, potatoes and flowers. They are a very good thing indeed.
If one gives the gourds a slight wash of water and bleach, they last forever. I have one that I have had for five years. Emily gave it to me when Flora was new. It has dried and looks amazing.

    2. Trump gave pumpkins a bad name I am afraid...as he has done with this nation.

  5. "She likes the elderly," - what a sweetie!
I was just thinking how I miss going pumpkin patching with my, then, little kids. We need a rent-a-toddler.
    You are a fine felter!

    1. any pooch that prefers the elderly is a friend to me! Darling little dog. The humans said that she was exceptionally well behaved, especially for a terrier! The farm is so much more than a pumpkin patch, that is why we love it so much! Dried flowers and gourds- apples and potatoes...So many reasons!!!

  6. ~$110 for a fish & chips lunch at the harbor in Anacortes? Yikes! Clearly y'all were paying for the view & "ambience." Kornetzke's take on the orange shitgibbon is spot on. I continue to be amazed at your talent as a felter. Pretty happy to see that the fence has not deterred the masked bandits on your deck, didn't think it would! Cheers!

    1. Going out for dinner is such a rip off! Better to have a picnic.
The fence keeps the deer out of the little flower patch behind the ADU, as intended, i suppose. The raccoons are like nature's New York Salute - humans are inferior. I love raccoon culture- I want to be their steward and advocate in this wonky human world. Any humans idiotic enough to accept and endure this administration deserves the result. Sorry to be human right now...

  7. Your felting is superb. Very nicely done LS.
My neighbor recently paid $50 for a just okay pizza. There was a drink and a pond view but still. I will not be frequenting that restaurant.
The rot and stench as described by K are totally accurate. The situation is deplorable, but here we are. Hard reality for sure.
The raccoons look completely at ease resting on your deck. They know it is a welcoming and safe place.
I also prefer the orange pumpkins and have bought a few for the woodlands. It is fun to see them move around and even disappear completely!

    1. rolypoly orange snack in the woods. The animals love his time of year. plums and apples on the ground and lovely pumpkins. Corn in the field and burst sunflower seeds. Must fatten up for winter. Prices of everything- out of control.
