The gate ,left opened ,welcomed neighborhood visitors to the most splendid Disco, Mermaid Princess party ever held on this planet.
Many children filled the yard in various interpretations of fancy dress. My favorite was a little boy named Shiloh, never falling out of character. He is a Tyrannosaurus, consistently. His Mom said that he has even refused to clean his room...because his arms are too tiny...That is the best imaginative excuse ever!
The sun came out for the afternoon , About ten large pizzas were consumed along with fruit and veg, cupcakes, apple crumble and ice cream.
Disco was in the living room separated from the normal world by a silver curtain. To enter one must have their hand stamped by the Boss Of The Disco (Flora) and must also get a stamp to exit. Emmett had the most stamps of anyone- on hands, face and arms. Not that he entered and exited the most, just that he likes stamps.
There was some dancing going on but mostly there was play- One child pretty much stayed on a wild rocking horse in the center of the disco. Some children just rolled around on the floor. Some avoided that room altogether preferring outdoor play. All of the kids were little gems- the parents ;cooler than cucumbers- a good time was had by all.
The dogs made out like bandits- children left half eaten pizza, dropped in favor of found plums on the ground. Presents were opened, SO MANY!!
AND THEN- the neighbor , unaware that Flora was having her Birthday in the yard- used his GD jackhammer right there across the fence to remove concrete. He was wearing sound cancelling ear protectors so could not hear the children yelling at him to stop, nor noticing the Dads lined up at the fence trying to get his attention. It went on far too long a FUCKING JACK HAMMER!!! One of the smaller kids, a baby really , was sent screaming and crying in fear ( painful sound abuse ) across the yard . There was no where to go to avoid that damned hammer!
I think that John finally went over to Jeff's to ask politely if he could postpone his jack hammering activity until 6:00, when the party began to dissipate.
I said my goodbyes, hugs and kisses and "I love you's" - " see you at the next Emily event...That woman can organize a party like no one ever! Two little children , so many events - child camps and activities during the week, plus working, plus going to school to achieve her Masters Degree in biological sciences, plus keeping up household maintenance -plus PT, plus the gym, plus getting groceries and dinner on the table for her family. Plus the usual shite one has dealing with youngin's- doctor visits, illnesses, sibling disagreements...you know how it goes.....the girl is unstoppable, I swear ! There is minor concern about "burn out" - Emily is strong and so together I trust that she will know when to just say "NO".
Leaving you with "Grandad Ben, from SouthHampton, as white and toothless as any good Brit should be"; a sunflower that popped out suddenly, and a refreshing bit of rain to ease your parched brains.
Another cool morning up here in our bubble. Quiet Sunday drizzle.
Joanne died the morning of Flora's Birthday and as Fresca said -"Seems like a fair exchange" .
Oh, and the little raccoon family returned minus the injured baby...It went to be with Joanne I reckon.

What a bash! A downright toddler rave!
ReplyDeleteJackhammer owning neighbors, something else to be thankful that I don't have... so far.
Who the hell. has a jack hammer on hand? I am suspicious...
Deleteanyway, the little kids party was astonishingly vital!
Flora's B-day bash sounds spectacular. All the children in their party attire look like they are having good fun. The disco lights set the scene nicely. Neighborhood pets joining in sounds good to me as well.
ReplyDeleteThe neighbor with the jackhammer seems a bit off-the-wall. There's always one!
RIP Joanne. You will be long remembered and missed.
Joanne was certainly a one off- our lives better for having known her and for having bought her weaving! Now I feel as though I must curtail my daily use of her towels, to preserve them, you know? But then I realize that they are to be used up- just like life! Non-replaceable!
DeleteThe Party looks to have been Fabulous, apart from the jack-hammering. Ben looks like avery nice person.
ReplyDeleteI knew it was coming, but have tears now for Joanne.
The party was well organized and loads of fun, all of the children were delightful and truly loving to one another. Flora has a very nice tribe.
DeleteSounds like THE PARTY OF THE CENTURY!
ReplyDeleteNot often a T-Rex comes to your party!
DeleteOh my word! I probably would have had to leave long before the jack hammer showed up. That many children having the times of their lives PLUS a disco!
ReplyDeleteNo. I do not know how these mothers manage. I say that and then I think...wait. I was a single mother who went to nursing school. How did I do it?
As best I could. That's how. I surely did not throw any mermaid princess disco parties, however.
YOUTH, that is how things get done! Grannies are just for moral support I reckon...
DeleteBig excitement! Do you think the neighbor cranked up the jackhammer on purpose? Anyway I'm glad he stopped, if belatedly.
ReplyDeleteToo bad about raccoon baby.
Jeff is generally a good neighbor, just unaware and I am sure he rented the hammer for a specific amount of hours.Jack hammers that close damages ears!
DeleteProbably just as well that the baby died...going though a raccoon life with that sort of amputation would be very difficult, painful. Life on this planet can really suck!
Oh to be a child and friend of Flora. Princess Disco Birthday Bash!
ReplyDeletethey are all. such charming children- no brats in the crowd!! Good parenting!
DeleteNow that was a party! Lots of self expression and fashion imagination. Pity about the jackhammer, but it was handled in the end. Flora was a baby just yesterday! She only grows more magical.
ReplyDeleteTime is a thief! Flora going into kindergarten, public school. I am not keen on that idea! You are so observant to notice the high fashion !
DeleteI don't think that I have ever seen a sunflower that color. It is spectacular. And the party seems like a little girls dream. As far as the neighbor. I used to have a brother-in-law who was a cranky old man and would do something like that just to be a jerk. I seriously hope that your neighbor isn't one of those.
ReplyDeleteOh no, the neighbor is just unaware...nice guy really. The kids love him and he is the first to know what Flora is up to (over the fence) because she uses her BIG voice to tell him.
DeleteIt is a remarkable sunflower, not sure where that seed came from.
